Girl Struck by Car Outside Cathedral City Elementary School
RIVERSIDE COUNTY - A devastating pedestrian accident near Rio Vista Elementary School left a 10-year-old girl in critical condition this afternoon. The accident happened about 2:30 p.m. Friday, when the girl was attempting to cross Verona Road from the north side of the street and was hit by a 2005 Toyota Corolla driven by 38-year-old Cathedral City resident Luis Delgadillo.
According to Cathedral City police, Delgadillo grew impatient and drove down at about 18 to 25 mph on the westbound center turn lane in front of the school when he hit the girl, The Desert Sun reports. Police also stated that Delgadillo was driving without a license at the time of the incident, and has received a citation in the past for operating the same vehicle while unlicensed.
After the pedestrian accident, the girl was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center for further treatment. It was not reported whether Delgadillo was cited or arrested.
Cathedral City Car vs. Pedestrian Accident Liability
Based on the information gathered from The Desert Sun, it is unclear why the driver was operating a vehicle without a license. Therefore, following an accident such as this one, the family of the child would be well-advised to speak an experienced Cathedral City personal injury lawyer. A caring attorney who understands the legal issues surrounding injury accidents involving unlicensed drivers, can advise the best course of action in protecting the family's legal rights. If the family intends to pursue a personal injury lawsuit on the child's behalf, an attorney can assist them in holding the responsible parties civilly and financially liable for the child's injuries, and help them recover compensation for hospital and medical care expenses, pain and suffering, and other related damages in this tragic May 18th pedestrian accident.
