Types of Skechers Shape-ups Injuries

skechers4.jpgWearers of Skechers Shape-ups, AVIA Avi-Motion, FitFlop sandals, Croc Tone Shoes, MBT boots, Reebok EasyTone or any other type of toning shoe are experiencing trip and fall accidents, fall from stair accidents and fall from curb accidents. It seems the curved sole design of toning shoes is making it hard for wearers to stabilize themselves when walking and therefore, is increasing the likelihood of a fall-related injury. Studies have also shown that toning shoes can alter a person's gait, which when worn for extended periods of time, can lead to severe alignment issues.

Broken Bone Injuries

One of the most common types of injuries associated with toning shoes is a broken bone injury. Broken bone injuries typically result when too much force is applied to a bone but can also occur when a bone is exposed to low amounts of force over a long period of time (stress fractures). Depending on the severity and location of the injury, broken bones may require surgical immobilization. Surgeons may use pins, plates, screws, nails and rods to hold together and immobilize the broken bone. Plaster casts, tape, slings and orthopedic casts may also be used to immobilize a broken bone.

Chronic Tendonitis

Chronic tendonitis, which is recurring inflammation of a tendon, is common in the upper and lower limbs, but can affect any tendon of the body. The symptoms of chronic tendonitis vary, but typically include constant pain, stiffness, burning sensation, swelling, redness and muscle "knots." Chronic tendonitis is generally treated with the use of anti-inflammatory drugs and physical therapy. Compression, braces and laser therapy have also been used in the treatment of chronic tendonitis.

Additional Types of Skechers Shape-Ups Injuries

Additional types of Skechers Shape-ups toning shoe injuries include head injuries, neck injuries, bruises, lacerations, back injuries, muscle sprains, ligament tears and spinal cord injuries.

If you have been seriously injured while wearing a toning shoe, you may be able to file a personal injury lawsuit. In a personal injury lawsuit, you may be able to collect monetary compensation for injury-related expenses, such as medical bills, therapy bills, disability, lost earnings due to missed time at work, impaired earning capacity, and pain and suffering.

Grover Beach Teens Seriously Injured in Crosswalk Accident

grandseventh.jpgSAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY - KION Central Coast News reported two Grover Beach teenagers suffered major injuries Sunday night after being struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of Grand Avenue and 7th Street. The July 24th Grover Beach pedestrian accident was reported around 9:00 p.m. According to police reports, the 17-year-old and 18-year-old girls, who were not identified, were in a crosswalk when they were struck. They were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, including multiple bone fractures. The 19-year-old man driving the pickup truck that hit the girls was not injured.

Cause of the July 24th Accident

Based on the limited details provided in news reports, it is not clear why the driver of the pickup truck did not yield to the teenagers crossing the street in a marked crosswalk. Grover Beach Police officers are investigating the cause of the pedestrian accident, and will determine whether the driver was responsible for this major injury accident.

Pedestrian Accident Personal Injury Liability

Following a serious injury pedestrian accident such as this July 24th incident on Grand Avenue, the parents of the injured teens would be well-advised to consult with an experienced California pedestrian accident attorney. A lawyer who understands the unique legal issues of intersection accidents and collisions that occur in marked crosswalks can help the injured victims protect their legal rights to recover maximum compensation for their medical expenses, pain and suffering, and other damages. In the event that the driver was uninsured or underinsured, a lawyer can also evaluate the families' rights and options to possibly pursue an injury claim against their own insurance holder.

Critical Injuries Reported in School Van Rollover on Interstate 10

vanrolloveri10.jpgTHOUSAND PALMS - Six people were hospitalized following a minivan rollover crash Thursday morning on westbound Interstate 10, near Cook Street, KPSP Local 2 News reported. The accident, involving a 2002 Mercury van registered to the Coachella Valley Unified School District, occurred around 8:49 a.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2011. According to the CHP, six people were injured in the crash. Two people suffered critical injuries, two people suffered moderate injuries, and two people suffered minor injuries. The occupants included a high school student, parent and staff of Coachella Valley Unified, and were part of a caravan of vehicles headed to Ontario International Airport, where the group would fly to Sacramento and then visit California State University Chico.

Due to the accident, the trip was cancelled, and the 23 students scheduled to visit the university would not get to go.

Cause of the Interstate 10 Rollover Crash

KPSP News reported that the driver of the vehicle following the van reported seeing a tire blowout before the driver lost control of the vehicle and the fan overturned. Tire blowouts can be attributed to many causes, including deferred maintenance of aging, worn tires, cargo overloading, underinflation, roadway hazards (such as potholes and debris), excessive speed, and manufacturing defects. Additionally, defective tire repairs can allow moisture to penetrate the tires and rust the steel belts. This could lead to rusting and increase the likelihood of tire failure. The CHP will likely have the tire inspected to determine if the crash was caused by a defect in the tire.

Rollover Accident Personal Injury Liability

The family members of the victims of this accident would be well-advised to speak with a knowledgeable California personal injury attorney while this March 24th accident remains under investigation. Because the van involved in the crash was owned by the school district, the CVUSD may be liable for the injured victim's medical care expenses, lost earnings, and pain and suffering. If the accident was caused by a defect in the tire, the tire manufacturer could be liable. An accident attorney who has successfully handled claims against numerous Southern California school districts and tire manufacturers can advise the injured victims of their legal rights and best course of action to protect them. In the interest of preserving evidence and witness recollections, it is advisable to speak with an attorney as soon as possible following a rollover accident such as this one.

One Person Killed, Twenty-Three Injured in Highway 189 Church Bus Crash Near Crestline

buscrash.pngSAN BERNARDINO COUNTY - One person was killed and 23 others were injured Monday afternoon when a church bus crashed on Highway 189, about 70 miles east of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Times and multiple media outlets reported. The collision was reported about one-half mile north of Lake Gregory near Crestline at about 11:45 a.m. on February 21, 2011. According to a press release from the San Bernardino Sheriff-Coroner Department, the driver of the bus, Won Seok Chae, 61, of Los Angeles, lost control of the bus on a curve. The bus went over double yellow lines and struck a northbound Nissan Murano SUV head-on before striking a telephone pull and going down an embankment. Chae was extricated at the scene and died at the scene at 1:25 p.m. The rest of the passengers were taken to area hospitals, including Loma Linda Medical Center, Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, and Community Hospital of San Bernardino with injuries ranging from minor to major. The cause of the San Bernardino County bus crash is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.

Most of the passengers on the bus were middle school and high school students and members of the predominantly-Korean Light of Love Mission Church. Four adults and 18 teenagers were on the bus. According to a deacon at the church, the bus driver was a professional tour bus driver who had volunteered to transport the students to a weekend retreat in Twin Peaks at the Pinecrest Christian Conference Center.

Cause of the Crash

The CHP will thoroughly investigate this accident and provide an official report of the cause of the crash. However, based on the information provided in news reports, it appears that speed may have been a factor. On winding roads such as this stretch of Highway 189, speed is a common cause or contributing factor of accidents such as this bus crash near Crestline. It is also possible that a defective in the bus, such as failing brakes, could be a factor. Hopefully, the investigation by law enforcement will provide answers as to what happened, and who was responsible.

Bus Accident Passenger Injury Liability

California Highway Patrol Officer Mario Lopez told the LA Times that there were no seat belts on the bus. Although seat belts are not required, it is likely that many of the serious injuries sustained in this accident could have been avoided if the passengers had been wearing seat belts. While this devastating accident remains under investigation, the parents and family members of the injured passengers would be well-advised to speak with an experienced and knowledgeable Los Angeles bus accident attorney about this church bus accident and the victims' legal rights. Lawyers who have represented victims of tragic church bus accidents such as this one can explain the unique liability issues that arise from accidents such as this February 21st Pasadena church bus crash in San Bernardino County, and the victims' rights to recover compensation for their serious injuries and related expenses.

Four Cyclists Injured on PCH File Personal Injury Lawsuit Against Caltrans

malibu.jpgPacific Coast Highway (PCH) is a popular route for cyclists in Malibu. It is also has been the location of a number of serious bicycle accidents involving cyclists in the last decade. Last year, PCH in Malibu made headlines when hundreds of cyclists were put in danger when a Caltrans contract crew failed left a repaving project over the weekend and failed to warn cyclists of serious dangers in the roadway. Dozens of cyclists suffered flat tires and a few were hospitalized with serious injuries.

A lawsuit was filed this week on behalf of four cyclists who suffered serious injuries while riding on Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) that weekend in Malibu, Malibu Times reported yesterday. The suit was filed against the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), the agency responsible for maintaining PCH. According to news reports, Caltrans had hired an outside contractor to repave a portion of PCH near Zuma Beach. During the initial stages of the repaving, the contractor left the jobsite unprotected, without posting warning signs that the road had been cut away, leaving rocks, loose gravel, cracks and crevices. The lawsuit asserted that the conditions of road caused the roadway to be unreasonably dangerous for cyclists. As a result of the dangerous road conditions, the four cyclists suffered multiple serious injuries, including concussions, broken bones, punctured lungs, severe road rash and paralysis.

In this situation, Caltrans had a responsibility to post a warning about the construction project, and failed to do so. As a result, they may be liable for the serious injuries sustained by the four cyclists, including their medical expenses, lost earnings, pain and suffering, and other related expenses.

$14 Million Awarded to Victim of Florida Crash Involving Cell Phone Use

gavel-justice.jpgIn personal injury news, a Florida man severely injured in a car accident in 2007 in Melbourne has been awarded $14.4 million, Lawsuits and Settlements reported this month. The plaintiff, Glen Kroeger, 50 at the time, was driving his van when it was struck head-on by a vehicle driven by Christopher Bevis and owned by C&G Homes, Inc. At the time of the collision, Bevis was using his cell phone. He was subsequently convicted of reckless driving.

Kroeger suffered a fractured humerus, a crushed left ankle, and a traumatic brain injury. As a result of his injury, he lost over 110 pounds, and suffers from memory loss and severely impaired speech. His counsel alleged that he has difficulties make decisions and acting appropriately in certain situations. The plaintiff contended that because of his injuries, he will never again be able to return to his work as a air conditioner repairman.

The defendants did not appear at the trial and a default judgment was entered. The court awarded $10.4 million to Kroeger for past and future medical costs, past and future lost earnings and earning capability, and past and future pain and suffering. Kroeger's wife was awarded $4 million for loss of consortium.

The pedestrian accident occurred at the intersection of Colima Road and Fairway Drive at about 5:40 a.m. Friday morning. According to news reports, a Dodge Neon was stopped at a red light when the driver of a Jeep Wrangler failed to see the stopped vehicle. The Wrangler then spun out of control and struck the Rowland Heights woman who was crossing the street in the crosswalk. She was taken to UC Irvine with serious injuries.

Cause of the Pedestrian Accident

If news reports are accurate, the driver of the Jeep Wrangler likely caused this crash. However, the official cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Pedestrian Accident Personal Injury Liability

In situations such as this October 1st Rowland Heights pedestrian accident, where the driver of a vehicle is likely at fault for an accident resulting in serious injury to a pedestrian, the family members of the injured victim would likely benefit from speaking to an experienced and knowledgeable Los Angeles pedestrian injury attorney. Eight Spectators Killed, Dozens Injured in Off-Road Accident at California 200 OHV Race

lucerne-valley-crash.jpegThe Associated Press reported that at least eight people died and twelve people were seriously injured Saturday night when a truck plowed into a crowd at the California 200, a race for off-highway vehicles north of Highway 247 in San Bernardino County. The crash happened at 7:51 p.m., about 100 miles northeast of Los Angeles near the Lucerne Valley.

One of the off-road racers participating in the crash, Brett M. Sloppy, 28, of San Marcos, lost control of his white truck at a spot called the "rock pile", shortly after the race started. The driver was reportedly not hurt. Witnesses described the scene as "complete chaos" and said "bodies were everywhere."

Because of the remote location of the crash, it took rescue units a half hour to reach the location. Ten emergency aircraft responded and 12 people were flown to Southern California hospitals. Victims included four men from the San Diego area, Brian Wolfin, 27, of Escondido, Anthony Sanchez, 23, of Escondido, and Aaron Farkas, 25, also of Escondido, and Michael James Dickinson, 34 of Spring Valley, and a woman from Las Vegas, Danica Frantzich, 20. Other victims were identified as Andrew Therrin, 22, of Riverside, Zachary Freeman, 24, of Fillmore and Dustin Malson, 24, of Ventura. The name of the eighth victim was not immediately released.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the 200 mile race where the accident occurred was held at Soggy Dry Lake on federal desert land just east of the San Bernardino Mountains. The only way to reach the location of the accident is via a six-mile dirt road off of California State Route 247. Some off-duty police and firefighters who were spectators at the event helped the injured and placed blankets over the deceased.

Cause of the August 14th Accident

Based on the limited information provided in news reports, the cause of this horrific crash is not clear. The California Highway Patrol has begun their investigation to see if this crash was caused by driver error or a defect in one of the vehicles. It was not evident who was the owner of the truck. The San Jose Mercury News reported that the Bureau of Land Management issued a statement saying safety was the responsibility of the race organizer, Mojave Desert Racing, based in South El Monte.

Liability for Injuries and Deaths

Spectators attending the race were not protected by barriers. The promoters of races such as the California 200 may not employ the proper amount of manpower to keep spectators a safe distance away from racing vehicles. Instead, promoters rely on federal and state land managers who are responsible for patrolling the desert. Due to high temperatures in the desert areas where races are permitted, races are often held at night. Bystanders have been killed or injured at other off-road races, including the Baja 1000 and the Dakar Rally, according to a report in the New York Times.

In situations such as this one, victims and their families would be encouraged to contact a California personal injury lawyer as soon as possible. Because of unique liability issues of these type of event bystander accidents, victims and their families have only a limited amount of time to pursue compensation for their injuries or a loved one's wrongful death. If you would like to know more about your legal rights as an injured bystander or the family of someone who was killed in this crash, contact a knowledgeable personal injury lawyer as soon as possible to discuss your potential case and rights to compensation from whoever is responsible for the accident.

The accident occurred in the 700 block of Avenida Pico, at around 9 p.m. The teen driver was not cited, and police did not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. Pedestrian Accidents & Personal Injury Liability

The cause of the incident remains under investigation. Based on the limited information provided in news reports, it is not clear what happened or who was responsible. Man Seriously Injured After Box Truck Crashes Into Disabled Audi on 60 Freeway

CA-60.pngThe driver of a Audi A4 sedan suffered major injuries to his head, pelvis, and chest after a bobtail box truck crashed into his vehicle on Thursday on the 60 (Pomona) Freeway. According to news reports in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the Audi was stopped on the shoulder on the eastbound 60 Freeway at Nogales Street in Rowland Heights when the box truck veered into it, pushing it forward between 200 and 300 feet. The injured driver of the Audi, who was not identified, was taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center.

Cause of the July 22nd 60 Freeway Accident

The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident. Based on the news reports, it is not clear why the driver of the box truck veered into the Audi. In their investigation, the CHP will look at factors such as driver impairment, driver distraction, vehicle speed, and even possible mechanical malfunction. We hope the man driving the Audi is okay and makes a full recovery from his undoubtedly very serious injuries. Please keep him in your prayers.

Personal Injury Liability

If the driver of the box truck is determined to be responsible for striking the Audi and severely injuring its driver, he or she may be liable for the man's injuries. If the box-truck was rented or owned by the man's employer, the rental company or employer may also be liable for the victim's injuries. In situations such as this one, where another party is likely responsible for someone else's serious injuries, the family members of the victim would be well-advised to contact a Los Angeles auto accident attorney as soon as possible. A skilled lawyer can help the victim and his family protect their legal rights and recover the maximum compensation for his medical expenses, lost earnings, and pain and suffering.

Two People Killed, One Critically Injured in Head-On Crash on PCH in Malibu

july16malibucrash.jpgA high-speed head-on collision early Friday morning left two people dead and one person critically injured, the Los Angeles Times reported. According to Mercury News, authorities were investigating whether one of the drivers deliberately caused the crash by driving the wrong-way (eastbound in the westbound lanes) at high speeds on Pacific Coast Highway (State Route 1). The collision, which involved a Saturn and a Ford Mustang, occurred near Zuma View Place at 12:42 a.m.

Authorities believe the Saturn sedan was travelling the wrong way, going eastbound in the westbound lanes, at speeds of more than 80 mph. Two women in another vehicle that was not involved in the collision said that moments before the crash, the Saturn had made a sudden U-turn and apparently deliberately drove toward their vehicle. They were able to avoid crashing into the Saturn, but it collided with the Mustang moments later.

Both vehicles burst into flames upon impact, and both the driver of the Saturn and the driver of the Ford Mustang were killed. A 24-year-old passenger in the Mustang suffered serious injuries, including a broken leg, a broken arm, and a head injury. The two occupants of the Mustang were reportedly naval officers from the Port Hueneme base.

Cause of the Fatal PCH Crash

If news reports are accurate, the driver of the Saturn caused this fatal head-on collision, and authorities are looking at whether the driver of the Saturn was trying to commit suicide. However, the cause of the crash still remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol. A CHP spokesman said the driver of the Saturn, whose name was not released, was believed to be from Minnesota. According to Mercury News, friends of the driver of the Saturn reportedly told the agency that the young man had a drinking problem and that his brother had died recently. This Los Angeles County accident is devastating on many levels, not just because two people died, but because the accident could have been so easily prevented.

Wrongful Death and Personal Injury Liability

Numerous unique legal issues arise when a driver that causes a crash is also killed in a collision. While this crash remains under investigation, the family members of the two occupants of the Mustang would be well-advised to talk to an experienced Los Angeles accident attorney as soon as possible, who can help them protect their rights following this tragic head-on collision. A skilled attorney can advise the families of how to handle communications with the insurance companies to ensure they receive the maximum financial compensation resulting from this accident and the wrongful death and serious personal injuries it caused.
