Victorville Man Killed in Highway 18 Pedestrian Accident

CA18basshillroad.jpgAPPLE VALLEY - A 22-year-old Victorville man tragically died Sunday night after he was struck by several vehicles on Highway 18 in Apple Valley, the Victorville Daily Press reported. The fatal pedestrian accident was reported in the westbound lanes of Highway 18 near Bass Hill Road at about 10:45 p.m. on Sunday, February 5, 2012. According to news accounts, Devance Jerome Coleman was struck by several passing vehicles and died at the scene of the crash. A second man was reportedly injured and taken to a local hospital. It was unclear if the injured man had been walking with Coleman or if he was an occupant of one of the vehicles that struck Coleman.

The fatal pedestrian accident was reported at about 12:15 p.m. on Monday, January 30, 2012. According to news accounts, the victim, Owen Skousen, 83, was struck by a green 2005 Chrysler 300 at 17th Street and Euclid Avenue. Skousen was rushed to a nearby hospital where he tragically died of his injuries. The driver of the Chrysler, who was not identified, was not hurt in the collision.

Mother and Son Attacked by Dog in Moreno Valley

Bullmastiff.pngRIVERSIDE COUNTY - At about 11:40 a.m. Tuesday, a mother and son were severely attacked by a dog in Moreno Valley. According to The Press-Enterprise, the woman was walking with her son, 6, while pushing a stroller with a younger child along Indian Avenue.

Riverside County sheriff's Cpl. Courtney Donowho stated the 120-pound Bullmastiff jumped a chain-linked fence from a nearby yard and began attacking the boy. The mother attempted to fight off the dog, which then turned on her. Moments later, the owner of the dog came out of his home and was able to pull the dog back into his backyard before authorities arrived.

Following this tragic incident, the child in the stroller was not injured in the attack. However, both the mother and 6-year-old son suffered dog bite injuries. The dog owner also surrendered ownership of the 18-month-old male Bullmastiff to Moreno Valley animal control officers. Manager Steve Fries of the Moreno Valley Animal Services indicated the dog, who will be quarantined in the next 10 days at a shelter, would not be considered for adoption and will probably be euthanized.

The pedestrian identified as Augustine Choi was crossing at a crosswalk at Brookhurst Street and Stanford Avenue around 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The driver of the vehicle, whose name was not released, immediately stopped after the collision to aid Choi. Following the accident, Choi was transported to UCI Medical Center in Orange for treatment of his injuries.

One Killed in Beaumont Three-Car Wreck on Highway 60

Man Injured in San Bernardino Bicycle Accident

The collision occurred before 5:30 a.m. Monday, when the bicyclist was hit by car while he was attempting to cross Waterman Avenue at 3rd Street.

After the collision, the bicyclist, whose name was not available, was taken to Loma Linda Hospital via ambulance for further treatment. The driver involved in this terrible accident - 28-year-old Benito Bustos-Gonzalez of Fontana - was reported to be driving without a license. Police did not specify whether he was arrested or cited.

UPDATE: According to The Press-Enterprise, the bicyclist involved in this horrific collision was identified as Bernard F. Culverson of San Bernardino. And at about 3:41 a.m. Tuesday, January 11th, Culverson was reported to have died due to his injuries.

One Killed, Six Injured in Compton Car Crash

LOS ANGELES COUNTY -- A Compton traffic collision left one person dead and several others injured Tuesday night, the South Gate Patch reported. The fatal accident occurred after 10 p.m. in the area of Alondra Boulevard and Harris Avenue, when a man, whose name was not released, was driving a Ford Excursion and crashed into a car that were carrying two women and four children.

Firefighters at the scene had to extricate one woman who was a rear seat passenger out of the vehicle. She was then taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwwod, where she later died due to her injuries. The other occupants in the vehicle - the other woman and four children - along with the male driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries and were transported to various hospitals.

It was reported that authorities are testing the male driver to determine whether he was driving under the influence. The names and ages of the six occupants in the car were not immediately available.

COACHELLA - A 50-year-old man died Monday evening shortly after he was struck by a light colored four door sedan on Harrison Street, north of Avenue 50, the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner reported in a press release. The accident was reported at approximately 5:42 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2012. The victim, who was not identified, was transported to John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital where he died shortly after arrival.

The Coachella Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in locating the suspect and the vehicle involved this crime. The accident happened around 7:40 p.m. Saturday when a driver in an El Camino traveling at "a high rate of speed" ran several stop lights, lost control, hit two vehicles at the intersection of W. 103rd and S. Main streets, and then jumped onto the sidewalk slamming into pedestrians. After this horrific crash, eleven people were injured and taken to a hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries was not immediately available.

Skateboarder Injured in Lake Elsinore Hit-and-Run Accident

According to the Riverside County Sheriff's, the skateboarder was struck from behind by a light-colored, lowered Honda vehicle with front-end damage. The skateboarder, whose name was not released, suffered major head injuries and was taken to hospital for further treatment.

UPDATE: Based on updated news reports given by The Press-Enterprise, the skateboarder involved in this tragic hit-and-run, died from his injuries New Years Day. He was later identified by the Riverside County coroner's office as Gerardo Garcia.

Garden Grove resident Gregory Martin was crossing West Street near Garden Grove Boulevard just before 7 p.m. when he was struck by a gray Dodge Magnum, and then struck and dragged about 750 feet by a white Ford Explorer.

The driver of the Dodge did not stop at the scene of the accident. According to OC Weekly, the driver of the Ford thought he hit debris on the road and figured it would be dislodged if he kept driving. However, he stopped when it did not fall off and saw the man beneath his vehicle. Martin was then taken to a local hospital with severe injuries following this horrendous accident.

Two people were airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center and two were taken to a local hospital for further treatment.
