Pedestrian Severely Struck and Killed by Car in Santa Monica
LOS ANGELES COUNTY -- A male pedestrian who appears to be in his 50s to 60s was severely hit and killed by an oncoming vehicle in Santa Monica at about 5:50 a.m. Wednesday, ABC Local News reports. The pedestrian, who police are still trying to identify, was walking west on Santa Monica Boulevard and attempting to cross Lincoln Boulevard before he was fatally struck by a vehicle. Following the collision, the driver of that vehicle fled the scene. And the car believed to be involved in the accident is a 2009-2011 charcoal gray Toyota Camry with a missing right side-view mirror, and damage to the hood and right fender.
Cause of the Pedestrian Accident in Santa Monica
The fatal October 26th pedestrian accident at the intersection of Santa Monica and Lincoln boulevards remains under investigation by the Santa Monica Police Department. However, based on the information provided by ABC Local News, it is unclear why the driver failed to remain at scene and wait for the proper authorities to arrive. Under the California Vehicle Code Section 20001(a): "The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident."
