Palmdale Woman Killed in Crash on 405 Freeway

I-405.pngLOS ANGELES - A 23-year-old Palmdale woman was very tragically killed late Thursday night in a crash on the 405 Freeway, the LA Weekly and Los Angeles Daily News reported. The victim, Vanessa Fulladosa, was the driver and sole occupant of a Mercedes-Benz that stalled in the fast lane of the 405 Freeway just north of Bellflower Boulevard. Police reported that Fulladosa called 911 to report the location of her vehicle breakdown moments before her vehicle was struck by a 2010 Mitsubishi driven by a 34-year-old Long Beach man. According to police, the driver of the Mitsubishi "failed to observe the 1997 Mercedes stopped in front of him and collided into its rear." The crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.

This young woman's death is heartbreaking and devastating. Our condolences go out to the family of Vanessa Fulladosa, and everyone who knew her and loved her. Please keep her family in your prayers during this surely very difficult time.

Cause of the February 17th Crash

If news accounts are accurate, the driver of the Mitsubishi apparently did not see the disabled vehicle stopped in front of him. Based on the news reports, it is unclear whether emergency flashers were turned on in Fulladosa's vehicle. However, drivers have a responsibility to keep their eyes in front of them and pay attention to roadway hazards, including debris, animals, pedestrians, and disabled cars. Being cautious and careful at all times can prevent rear-end collisions with stopped or disabled vehicles.

Car Accident Wrongful Death Liability

The California Highway Patrol will determine exactly what happened and if the driver of the Mitsubishi is determined to be responsible for this crash by failing to stop and rear-ending Fulladosa's vehicle, he may be cited or criminally charged. Additionally, he may be liable for the wrongful death of the victim. After an accident such as this one, the family may file a wrongful death claim against the driver, and recover damages for funeral and burial expenses, anticipated future earnings the decedent would have earned over her lifetime, and loss of love, care, affection and companionship. While the crash remains under investigation, the family of the victim would be well-advised to speak with a Los Angeles wrongful death lawyer about this 405 Freeway accident. An experienced and knowledgeable attorney will be able to explain to the victim's family their legal rights in a wrongful death claim against the driver and any other responsible parties.
