Two Men Killed in San Bernardino Car Accident on Interstate 15

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY -- According to the San Bernardino County Sun, two men were killed in a collision Sunday morning. The two men were traveling northbound on Interstate 15 near Cleghorn Road in a Ford Explorer when for unknown reasons their vehicle slammed into the center divider. The collision led the vehicle to stop on the far right lane of the freeway, just a quarter mile north of Highway 138. Moments later, a GMC Sierra rear-ended the Explorer, sending both vehicles over the side of the freeway. The impact of the collision caused the Sierra and Explorer to burst into flames. Firefighters at the scene, extinguished the fires and found the bodies of the two men inside the Explorer. Both men were reported to have died at the scene and their identities have not been released until they have been accurately identified and their next of kin is notified.

Cause of the San Bernardino Car Accident on Interstate 15

The accident on September 11th remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol. However, based on the information provided by the San Bernardino County Sun and The Press-Enterprise, it is unclear to determine what caused the driver of the Ford Explorer to crash into the center divider. It is also not evident why the driver of the GMC Sierra was unable to prevent his/her vehicle from colliding with the Explorer. interstate15nipton.jpgSAN BERNARDINO COUNTY - A 50-year-old woman and an 11-year-old girl were both tragically killed Sunday night in an SUV rollover crash in Mountain Pass on Interstate 15, the San Bernardino Sun reported. The July 17th accident was reported at 10:18 p.m. on northbound I-15, north of Yates Well Road, west of Nipton, CA and south of Primm, NV. Paramedics found a silver 1999 Isuzu Rodeo had overturned into a ditch. The fast lane of I-15 was closed for five hours while CHP officers conducted an investigation.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner identified the victims as Patricia Vargas, 50, of Las Vegas, and Maria Lopez, 11, of Mexico. According to the press release, both victims were not wearing seat belts and were ejected from the vehicle when it overturned after the tread on one of the vehicle's tires separated, causing the driver to lose control.

Interstate 15 Rollover Accidents

Interstate 15 in San Bernardino County has been the location of dozens of serious injury or fatal vehicle rollover accidents over the years. Just last month, two Nevada woman were killed in an Interstate 15 rollover accident near Baker. In May, a 37-year-old Los Angeles man died in a SUV rollover crash in the Cajon Pass. In November 2010, a 61-year-old Las Vegas woman died in a vehicle rollover on I-15 near Zzyzx Road. In July 2010, an Oro Grande man died in a Ford Explorer rollover crash on northbound I-15 in the Cajon pass. And in March 2010, a Rancho Cucamonga couple was killed in a Ford Explorer rollover on southbound I-15. These accidents are just a few of the accidents that happen on a weekly basis on I-15 throughout the county of San Bernardino.

Vehicle Accident Wrongful Death Liability

Two Women Killed In SUV Rollover Accident on I-15

I15.pngSAN BERNARDINO COUNTY - Two Nevada woman were tragically killed Wednesday in an SUV rollover accident on Interstate 15 near Baker. The Press-Enterprise reports that the two women were traveling on the interstate's southbound lanes at Halloran Springs Road when, apparently, one of the SUVs tires blew, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and rollover several times. The driver of the vehicle and a rear seat passenger died at the scene of the accident. The other passengers were hospitalized and at this time, it is not known what their condition is.

Cause of the Interstate 15 SUV Rollover Accident

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the June 28th crash, which occurred around 11:20 a.m. If news reports are accurate, it is possible that a defective or worn tire contributed to the accident occurring. It is also possible that the design and crashworthiness of the SUV also contributed to the deaths of the two women. Due to a high center of gravity and a narrow wheelbase, SUVs are three times more likely to rollover in a single-vehicle accident than the average sedan. In addition, many SUVs are designed wihtouth a roll bar, which in an accident prevents the roof from collapsing or being crushed by the weight of the vehicle. Numerous motorists have been tragically killed or injured by a roof collapsing in a rollover crash.

SUV Rollover Accident Liability

If it is determined by the CHP that a defective tire or flawed vehicle design was responsible for the tragic accident, a tire manufacturer or auto manufacturer may be liable for the wrongful death of the two women. During the investigation process, the family members of the deceased victims would be well advised to speak to a Los Angeles SUV rollover accident lawyer. A knowledgeable lawyer can help victims' families make sense of the legal process and understand what their legal rights are in this situation. Family members may be entitled to compensation for funeral and burial costs, future income and savings, and loss of support, companionship and care.

Lawndale Man Struck and Killed on Interstate 15 in Apple Valley

I-15.pngSAN BERNARDINO COUNTY -- A 33-year-old Lawndale man who survived a solo-vehicle collision on Interstate 15 was subsequently struck and killed by another vehicle, the Press-Enterprise reported. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner, the victim, Ariel Travieso, was northbound on I-15, about two miles north of Dale Evans Parkway, when his vehicle struck black ice and he lost control and struck the center divider. Travieso reportedly got out of his vehicle and was subsequently struck by another vehicle on I-15. He was rushed to St. Mary's Medical Center in Apple Valley, where he died at 9:35 p.m.

Cause of the Interstate 15 Crash

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol. It is likely that the ice in the road played a role in this crash, and that Travieso as well as the driver of the vehicle that ultimately struck him, were unaware of the present of the highly transparent thin layer of ice covering the road. It is unclear where in the roadway Travieso was when the other vehicle struck him. Based on the very limited information provided in news reports, it is unclear what exactly happened. Hopefully, the investigation by the CHP will reveal exactly what happened, and why.

Interstate 15 Accident Wrongful Death Liability

If the driver of the other vehicle was driving negligently, e.g., not paying attention, speeding, driving under the influence, or falling asleep at the wheel, the driver could be responsible for the death of Travieso. In addition to criminal charges for negligent driving, the victim could also be civilly liable for the wrongful death of the victim. While this accident remains under investigation, the family members of the deceased victim may consider speaking with an experienced and knowledgeable California wrongful death attorney. A lawyer who has represented numerous victims of Interstate 15 accidents can advise the family of their legal rights following this crash, and their best course of action to protect them. If the other driver was responsible, the family may be entitled to recover damages for final medical care, funeral and burial expenses, lost earnings and benefits the decedent would have earned over his lifetime, and loss of love, care, affection and companionship.

Las Vegas Woman Killed in I-15 Rollover Crash Near Baker

interstate-15.jpgA 61-year-old Las Vegas woman tragically died in a vehicle rollover crash Wednesday morning on Interstate 15, the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner reported. The woman, Christine Ann Newton, was a right rear passenger in a 2007 Ford F-150 travelling northbound on I-15. About one mile north of ZZyzx Road, at about 8:48 a.m. on November 3rd, the driver of the truck she was riding in lost control and struck the center divider. The driver apparently overcorrected, and then jerked the wheel back to the right. The vehicle overturned and Newton, who was wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected and died at the scene of the crash. It is unclear if anyone else in the vehicle was injured.

Cause of the I-15 Crash

The cause of the fatal Interstate 15 accident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol - Barstow Station. Based on the news reports, it is unclear what caused the driver of the vehicle Newton was riding in to lose control and crash. As a restrained passenger in the backseat of the vehicle, Newton likely could have done nothing to prevent this horrible crash that ultimately ended her life. Accidents like this one can have numerous causes, including tire blowouts, dangerous road conditions, road debris, falling asleep at the wheel or driving distracted or impaired. Hopefully, the investigation by the CHP will reveal exactly what happened and why.

Passenger Deaths and Wrongful Death Liability

From a liability standpoint, unique legal issues are involved when a passenger is killed in a rollover accident. It is possible that, depending on how the accident occurred, the manufacturer of the vehicle may be liable for this accident, and the resulting wrongful death of the passenger. While this accident remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol, the surviving family members of Christine Newton may benefit from consulting and knowledgeable California wrongful death lawyer. Whether the accident was caused by the negligence of the driver, a defect in the Ford F-150 truck, or even a dangerous condition on the freeway, an attorney can help the family understand their rights and options to hold whoever is responsible for this accident financially accountable. Damages awarded for a passenger's wrongful death may include compensation for anticipated lifetime earnings and income of the victim, funeral and burial expenses, and loss of love, care, affection and companionship.

Bloomington Woman Killed in Interstate 15 Crash in San Bernardino County

i-15-harvard-road.jpgA passenger died in a single vehicle accident early Sunday morning on southbound Interstate 15 northeast of Barstow, the San Bernardino Sun reported. The accident was reported around 5 a.m. when the driver of a Chevrolet Cobalt went off the road and into the open desert. One of the passengers in the vehicle died at the scene of the crash at around 5:15 a.m. near Harvard Road. The victim was later identified by the San Bernardino Sheriff Coroner as Catherine Roseski, 21, of Bloomington. The driver of the Cobalt, Stephanie Ann Aiello, 20, of San Bernardino, was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center with critical injuries. The third passenger, Andrew James Coulson, 22, of Fontana, suffered only minor injuries.

Our condolences go out to the family of the victim, Catherine Roseski, and everyone who knew her and loved her. Please keep her family and friends in your prayers during this surely very difficult time.

Cause of the October 24th Accident

There was no clear cause of the crash reported. Based on the limited information provided in news reports, the cause of this fatal Interstate 15 crash remains unclear. The California Highway Patrol will certainly look at whether this crash was caused by the driver, a defect in the vehicle, or a dangerous road condition. Hopefully, the investigation will yield answers as to what happened and why.

Passenger Fatalities and Wrongful Death Liability Issues

Solo vehicle accidents have unique and sometimes complex liability issues. Although it may be easier to determine the cause of the crash when only one vehicle is involved, it may be challenging for victims to recover fair compensation in a wrongful death claim against the driver's insurance company (or any other party determined to be liable for a solo vehicle accident). In situations such as this one, while the cause of a fatal car accident is under investigation, the family members of the victim would be well-advised to contact a knowledgeable California wrongful death lawyer as soon as possible. An attorney who has represented numerous families of passenger victims of solo vehicle accidents can help the victim's family protect their legal rights and advise them of their best course of action following this accident.

Tire Blowout Blamed for Fatal I-15 Rollover Accident

I-15.pngThe Press-Enterprise has reported a tire blowout is likely to blame for a fatal solo-vehicle accident over the weekend on Interstate 15. The accident occurred on southbound Interstate 15, north of Baseline Road, at about 5:15 p.m. Sunday, September 19, 2010. According to news reports, Vannity Joy Lewis, 18, of Fontana was a passenger in a 1997 Volkswagen Jetta travelling southbound on Interstate 15. One of the rear tires on the vehicle blew out, causing the driver to lose control of the car.

The Jetta overturned multiple times, and Lewis was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene of the crash. The driver and one other passenger suffered major injuries. Two other passengers suffered moderate injuries.

Cause of the Interstate 15 Crash

The California Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the cause of the accident. If news reports in the Press-Enterprise and Fontana Herald News are accurate, this accident was likely caused by a tire blowout, a common vehicle malfunction that can lead to a serious car accident. Tire blowouts can occur for a number of reasons, which may be attributable to the driver or vehicle owner, or the manufacturer of the tire or vehicle.

Personal Injury and Wrongful Death Liability

Car accidents caused by tire blowouts have unique and often complex legal issues. After an accident caused by a suspected tire blowout, injured victims and family members of deceased victims would be well-advised to consult with a southern California car accident lawyer who can arrange to have the vehicle and damaged tire inspected as soon as possible for a possible tire defect. Determining the exact cause of a blowout is very important in determining why an accident occurred and who is ultimately responsible. If negligence (either on the part of the driver, the manufacturer of the tire or vehicle, the company that installed the tire, or agency responsible for maintaining the roadway or any other party) was a factor in the tire blowout, an experienced lawyer can help the victims and their families pursue compensation in a personal injury or wrongful death claim.

Major Injuries in Jeep Grand Cherokee Rollover Near Barstow

i-15-and-ca-58-eb.jpgFour people were hurt in a SUV rollover accident Tuesday afternoon in Barstow, the Desert Dispatch reported. The solo-vehicle accident, which involved a Jeep Grand Cherokee, occurred near the intersection of CA State Route 58 and Interstate 15. According to the CHP, the tread separated on one of the rear tires on the Jeep, causing the driver of the vehicle to lose control and veer off the freeway. Two of the occupants in the vehicle suffered major injuries and were airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center; two others with less serious injuries were taken by ambulance to Barstow Hospital. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the San Bernardino SUV rollover accident.

Tire Blowouts and SUV Rollovers on I-15

On March 21st of this year, a San Bernardino woman who was a passenger in a 1995 Jeep died in a solo-vehicle rollover accident on Interstate 15 in San Bernardino caused by a tire blowout. This July 3rd Jeep rollover accident, and the one earlier this year in March, are both examples of the serious consequences of tire blowouts at highway speeds. There have been a number of other serious injury and fatal vehicle rollovers on I-15 this year involving pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles. Tire blowouts have a number of causes, including underinflation, overinflation, overloading, negligent maintenance, road debris, negligent installation and structural defects.

Potential Personal Injury Liability

In any accident where a defect in a vehicle is a potential contributing factor to a collision, the vehicle must be preserved for inspection and testing. The vehicle itself is valuable evidence that can establish what happened in an accident. In situations such as this one, the family members of the injured victims would be well-advised to contact a California SUV rollover accident lawyer about this accident and whether a defect in the tire caused this accident. If the accident was caused by a tire defect, the injured victims may be entitled to compensation for their injuries from the manufacturer of the tire or the vehicle. A Barstow personal injury lawyer who has successfully represented victims of SUV rollovers can help the injured victims protect their rights and recover the maximum compensation they may be entitled to for their injuries.

Bloomington Woman Killed, Man Injured in Interstate 15 Rollover Crash

i15signeb.jpg
A Bloomington woman died Monday morning in a solo vehicle rollover accident on Interstate 15 in Victorville, the San Bernardino Press Enterprise reported. The July 5th accident was reported at 7:51 a.m. on northbound I-15, north of Bear Valley Road in Victorville. The San Bernardino County Coroner identified the victim as Gloria Lynn Hooker, 57, of Bloomington.

According to the Victorville Daily Press, Hooker was a passenger in a 1999 Ford F250 Superduty pickup truck driven by Jerry Wayne Hooker, 55. The vehicle was in the fast lane when one of the tires rapidly lost pressure. As the driver attempted to pull over in the center divider, the tire shredded, causing the pickup truck to overturn multiple times. Both the driver and the passenger remained in the vehicle and had to be extricated by emergency personnel. Jerry Wayne Hooker was flown to Antelope Valley Hospital with moderate injuries. Gloria Lynn Hooker died at the scene.

Tire Blowouts and Rollover Accidents

The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the cause of the accident. If news reports are accurate, the rapid deflation and blowout of the tire caused the driver of the vehicle to lose control, and the vehicle to overturn. This was not the first I-15 rollover fatality attributed to a tire blowout this year. A 46-year-old San Bernardino woman died in March in a Jeep rollover accident on I-15 attributed to a tire blowout.

At freeway speeds, it can be very difficult to regain control of a vehicle in a rollover situation. Tires are a critical element of vehicle safety. When tires blow out, or rapidly deflate, the consequences are often deadly. Tire blowouts can be caused by aged tires, excessively worn tires, road hazards, underinflation, overinflation, overloading, and defects in design and manufacturing. Every year, dozens of tire manufacturers recall tires for defects that put motorists at risks. Tire blowouts can also result when tires are not installed properly.

Wrongful Death Liability and Compensation

If the tire blowout resulted from a tire manufacturing defect or negligence in installation, the family members of the victim of this accident may be entitled to compensation for their loss in a wrongful death claim. While this crash is under investigation, the family members of the victims of this crash may benefit from speaking to an attorney about the cause of this crash and potential liability issues. An experienced lawyer who has handled many tire blowout accident cases can arrange to have the tire and vehicle inspected, and advise the victims of their potential legal rights, options, and responsibilities following this accident.
