Highway 71 Accidents and Fatalities
Less than a year ago, on Friday, August 14, 2009, two people suffered critical injuries in a head-on collision on Highway 371 at Cary Road, likely very near this same accident location. On May 23, 2006, one person died in an early morning rollover crash on Hwy 371 near Burnt Valley Road (about five miles away from the location of the May 20th rollover crash). A total of nine people died in accidents on Highway 371 in 2006, and three people died on Hwy 371 in 2007, according to the CHP. Residents of the Anza Valley have long lobbied Caltrans for more safety projects for their rural area, which is located south of Hemet and east of Temecula.
