ORANGE COUNTY -- A 54-year-old man was tragically struck by a two vehicles in Garden Grove while he was attempting to cross the street. Garden Grove resident Gregory Martin was crossing West Street near Garden Grove Boulevard just before 7 p.m. when he was struck by a gray Dodge Magnum, and then struck and dragged about 750 feet by a white Ford Explorer.
The driver of the Dodge did not stop at the scene of the accident. According to OC Weekly, the driver of the Ford thought he hit debris on the road and figured it would be dislodged if he kept driving. However, he stopped when it did not fall off and saw the man beneath his vehicle. Martin was then taken to a local hospital with severe injuries following this horrendous accident.
Pedestrian Accident Personal Injury Liability
As it remains unclear as to what happened and who is responsible for the collision, there is no excuse for fleeing the scene of the accident. According to the California Vehicle Code Section 20001(a): "The driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to a person, other than himself or herself, or in the death of a person shall immediately stop the vehicle at the scene of the accident."
Following a major pedestrian accident, the victim or the victim's family would be well-advised to speak to a knowledgeable California personal injury attorney immediately regarding their legal rights. A lawyer at the law firm of Estey Bomberger can ensure the victim's legal rights are protected, help police in efforts locate the driver who fled the accident, and decide the best course of action to obtain compensation for his injuries, including, medical care expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages relating to this horrific December 28th hit-and-run pedestrian accident.
