October 1, 2011

ORANGE COUNTY -- Two pedestrians were killed Saturday morning after being hit by a car in Anaheim, OC Register reports. The pedestrians, a man and woman, were struck by a Cheverolet Astro van at about 4:10 a.m. in the 1600 block of South Harbor Boulevard. A boy, under the age of 18, told police officers he was the driver of the van. According to Sgt. Bob Dunn of the Anaheim Police Department, several others are believed to be present in the van at the time of the collision, however, those occupants fled before police arrived. Following the accident, the two pedestrians were reported to have died at the scene and police are determining whether alcohol was involved. The identities of the individuals involved in this horrible collision were not immediately available.

Cause of the October 1st Anaheim Pedestrian Accident

The fatal pedestrian accident is currently being investigated by the Anaheim Police Department. However, based on the information provided by the OC Register, Los Angeles Times, and KTLA News, it appears the driver may be at fault for the collision due to the speculation that alcohol might be involved. Therefore, it is evident the pedestrians had no way to prevent or avoid the devastating collision.

Pedestrian Accident Wrongful Death Liability

In situations such as this one, if alcohol was a factor in the accident, the underage drunk driver and the people who supplied the alcohol to the underage drunk driver can be held criminally and financially liable for the death of the victims. Therefore, if police officials determine that the driver is officially responsible for the collision, family members of the victims would be well-advised to consult with a skilled California pedestrian accident lawyer. A knowledgeable attorney who has handled wrongful death claims, can help protect the legal rights of the family and determine the best course of action to recover the maximum compensation for funeral and burial costs, future anticipated lifetime earnings and benefits, and loss of love, care, affection and companionship.
