ORANGE COUNTY -- A 96-year-old-woman tragically died and others sustained injuries following a five-vehicle car crash in Huntington Beach, CBS Los Angeles News reports. The accident occurred just before 11:40 a.m. Friday, at the intersection of Adams Avenue and Bushard Street, when a 2005 Mercedes Benz on the roadway stalled and became stranded in traffic. Three vehicles managed to stop behind the vehicle, however, for unknown reasons the driver of a 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor failed to stop and slammed into the column of cars. Following this terrible accident, six people were transported to various hospitals for further treatment. The 96-year-old woman, identified as Ruth Brown, was a passenger in the stalled Mercedes Benz. According to the OC Register, Brown died a short time later at UCI Medical Center due to her injuries.
Cause of the Car Crash in Huntington Beach
The accident on October 7th remains under investigation by the Huntington Beach Police Department. However, based on the information provided by news reports, it is not evident why the driver of the Mitsubishi was unable to prevent or avoid colliding with the other vehicles. Authorities investigating this accident will look at numerous factors, which include and are not limited to, the speed of the Mitsubishi at the time of the accident, distracted driving, and vehicle malfunctions.
