Several Students Seriously Injured in School Bus Accident in Lake Arrowhead
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY -- According to the San Bernardino County Sun, nine students were hospitalized Monday morning following a radiator burst on a school bus. The bus carrying roughly 50 students was traveling on Highway 18 and heading to Mary Putnam Henck Intermediate School in Lake Arrowhead when the bus overheated at about 8:43 a.m. The sudden overheating of the school bus caused hot radiator fluid to breach and spew on several students. The bus driver then pulled over on the shoulder of Highway 18, just west of Santa's Village. Students that sustained burn injuries were taken to local hospitals for further treatment, while another school bus was dispatched to pick up the unharmed students and take them to school.

ORANGE COUNTY -- According to the Orange County Register, a multi-vehicle accident in La Habra tragically killed one person and injured another. The accident happened at 5:39 p.m. Saturday when a blue Acura Integra and silver Porsche Cayenne collided at the intersection of Idaho Street and Sandlewood Avenue. After the collision, the driver of the Acura, Esat Ozgul, 91, of La Habra, was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:52 p.m. The driver of the Porsche, a male driver whose identity was not released, was treated at the scene with minor injuries.
LOS ANGELES COUNTY -- Three children, ages 10, 6, and 4, were tragically struck by a hit-and-run driver in South Los Angeles, KTLA News reported. The accident happened at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday near the corner of Main Street and 47th Street. After the collision, all three children were transported to a hospital for further treatment. LOS ANGELES COUNTY -- A male pedestrian in his 70s was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver in South Los Angeles, CBS Los Angeles reports. The accident occurred at the intersection of 113th and Figueroa streets at about 4:45 a.m. Sunday. According to the Los Angeles Police, the car was abandoned where the accident took place, and the suspects - identified as a male and a female - fled the scene.
RIVERSIDE COUNTY -- A Hemet school's director of professional and development was killed in a car collision at about 5 p.m. Thursday, The Press-Enterprise reported. The administrator, Jason Moscowtiz, 37, was driving his Honda Civic when he severely collided with a Toyota Celica driven by an 18-year-old senior at West Valley High School. According to the North County Times, this tragic multi-vehicle accident occurred at Sanderson Avenue and Mustang Way. Following this collision, Moscowitz was reported to have died at the scene, while the other driver's identity and whether not he or she was injured was not immediately released.
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY -- A 44-year-old man was critically hurt after being struck by a car in Chino, The Press-Enterprise reported. The man, Francisco Donato, of Pomona, was riding his bicycle at 6 a.m. Thursday along the 13300 block of East End Avenue when he was hit by a 2001 GMC Yukon. According to Chino police, the driver, Gerardo Mendez, 18, of Pomona, was attempting to pass another vehicle before severely hitting the bicyclist. Following the incident, Donato sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton where he was listed in critical condition.
ORANGE COUNTY -- In the city of Huntington Beach, a 68-year-old pedestrian woman sustained serious injuries after she was struck by an oncoming vehicle, Orange County Register reports. The accident occurred at about 7:20 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection at Yorktown Avenue and England Street. Huntington Beach police Lt. Mike Reynolds indicated the driver of a Toyota sedan was traveling west on Yorktown before hitting the woman with her vehicle. Following this devastating collision, the pedestrian was transported to UCI Medical Center in Orange for treatment of her injuries that are believed to be life-threatening.

The accident occurred on Tuesday at about 2:40 p.m. in the city of Victorville, when a Jeep ran a red light and struck an SUV that was making a left turn onto Hook Boulevard from Amargosa Road. The impact of collision caused the SUV to hit another vehicle that was also making a left turn. Following the accident, the driver of the Jeep was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, the driver of the SUV was transported to Victor Valley Community Hospital, and the other driver declined medical treatment. The woman, whose name was not released, was walking her pets along the 200 block of East O Street in south Colton, when two dogs, described as American bull dogs, charged and fought her pets, then attacked the woman. According to Colton police, an 11-year-old boy defended his mother by hitting to two dogs with his skateboard.
RIVERSIDE COUNTY -- A woman was severely hit by a car on Interstate 10 in Palm Springs, The Desert Sun reports. The pedestrian, whose name was not released, was running across the I-10 near Indian Canyon Drive at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, when a black Volkswagen Jetta struck her and then fled the scene. Following this devastating collision, the woman was taken to a hospital for further treatment. Meanwhile, CHP officers are currently searching for the driver of the Volkswagen that has a partial license of 7H6X.
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY -- A 31-year-old Victorville man was arrested on the suspicion of causing a hit-and-run car accident that occurred at 2:02 p.m. Monday, The Press-Enterprise reports. Luis Arroyo is believed to have been behind the wheel of a Dodge pickup going southbound on Highway 395 when he struck a 2001 Ford Explorer traveling northbound. According to police officials, Arroyo attempted to make a left turn in front of the Ford, however, he ended up hitting the SUV before fleeing the scene. The driver of the Ford, Latrina Leeshell Woodberry, 34, of Victorville, lost control of her vehicle after the impact, which then caused her to slam into a telephone pole.
RIVERSIDE COUNTY -- A 76-year-old pedestrian man was severely injured after being struck by an oncoming vehicle Saturday in Moreno Valley, The Press-Enterprise reported. The accident occurred just after 9 a.m. when the pedestrian man was crossing at the intersection of Graham Street and Old Valley Drive. The man, whose name was not released, was struck by a blue 2006 Toyota Highlander.
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY -- A 27-year-old Pomona man was killed while bicycling Saturday morning, The Press-Enterprise reports. The tragic accident occurred at 9:46 a.m., when cyclist Omar Gomez, was riding along Carbon Canyon Road in Chino Hills and then was struck by a 1995 Acura, driven by a 23-year-old male. According to sheriff's spokeswoman Karen Hunt, the driver of the Acura looked away from the road momentarily then hit Gomez. Following the collision, Gomez was originally pronounced dead at the scene, but a coroner's spokesman indicated he was taken to Chino Valley Medical Center, where later died at about 10:30 a.m.
RIVERSIDE COUNTY -- A woman was struck and killed by a train in Riverside at about 7 p.m. Saturday, The Press-Enterprise reports. According to police officials, the woman, Susan Dibene, 33, of Riverside, was pushing her child in a stroller near the intersection of Mary and Indiana Streets when an oncoming Metrolink train en route from Oceanside to San Bernardino struck Dibene. Witnesses at scene indicated the wheels of the stroller apparently got stuck in the tracks and Dibene was able to push her 2-year-old daughter in the stroller to safety before she was hit.
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY -- A Victorville man was struck and killed early Saturday morning on Interstate 15, The Press-Enterprise reports. The man, James Emmett Weatherford IV, 44, was attempting to cross the I-15 near Roy Rogers Drive in Victorville at about 1:11 a.m. when he was struck by a red 2011 Ford Fusion. According to authorities, Weatherford died at the scene of the accident. The name of the driver involved in the crash was not immediately available.
ORANGE COUNTY -- A 96-year-old-woman tragically died and others sustained injuries following a five-vehicle car crash in Huntington Beach, CBS Los Angeles News reports. The accident occurred just before 11:40 a.m. Friday, at the intersection of Adams Avenue and Bushard Street, when a 2005 Mercedes Benz on the roadway stalled and became stranded in traffic. Three vehicles managed to stop behind the vehicle, however, for unknown reasons the driver of a 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor failed to stop and slammed into the column of cars. Following this terrible accident, six people were transported to various hospitals for further treatment. The 96-year-old woman, identified as Ruth Brown, was a passenger in the stalled Mercedes Benz. According to the OC Register, Brown died a short time later at UCI Medical Center due to her injuries.
RIVERSIDE COUNTY -- A solo vehicle car accident in the city of Menifee left three teenagers injured. According to The Press-Enterprise, Vincent Castrejon, 19, of Menifee, was driving a Honda Accord along Antelope Road near Mesa Crest Way at about 6 p.m. Tuesday when he lost control of his vehicle. Castrejon and his two male passengers, both 16 years of age, were injured following the accident. Castrejon and the boy in the back passenger seat sustained moderate injuries, while the boy in the front passenger seat suffered serious injuries. All three were transported to a hospital for further treatment.
ORANGE COUNTY -- According to the OC Register, a pedestrian man was struck and killed by two vehicles in the city of Santa Ana. The accident was reported shortly before 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, when a man, whose name was not released, was walking at the intersection of West 1st Street and South Newhope Street, and then was hit by an passing vehicle that failed to stop. Following the collision, a second vehicle hit the man and also failed to stop. Police officials found the second vehicle, impounded the car, however, the driver was not arrested. Authorities are still trying to locate the first driver involved in this devastating collision.
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY -- According to The Press-Enterprise, a San Clemente man tragically died Sunday after he struck a rock while riding an off-road motorcycle. The accident was reported at about 9:35 a.m., when motorcyclist Bill Larson, 53, was riding his off-road bike in Pipes Canyon Wash near Yucca Valley and for unknown reasons he lost control and struck a rock. According to the California Highway Patrol, Larson died less than an hour later following the crash.
RIVERSIDE COUNTY -- A three-motorcycle crash on Highway 74 killed one and injured two others, The Press-Enterprise reports. The accident occurred at about 1:45 p.m. Sunday, when William James Kaucky, 39, of Anaheim, was reported to be traveling east at a high speed on his 2009 Kawasaki motorcycle and then for unknown reasons, he drove off the opposite side of the road and struck an embankment. The impact of the collision caused Kaucky to be thrown off his bike and into the eastbound lane where he was hit by another motorcycle, driven by a 44-year-old man from Riverside. This collision then caused the Riverside man to be thrown off his 2007 Suzuki.
RIVERSIDE COUNTY -- A cyclist in Moreno Valley was killed by a pickup truck Sunday morning, The Press-Enterprise reports. The bicyclist, Vernon Slade, 74, of Moreno Valley, was riding along the 13100 block of Heacock Street at about 3:27 a.m. when he was hit by a Dodge Ram pickup traveling north on Heacock. Following this devastating collision, Slade was taken to Riverside County Regional Medical Center where he later died due to his injuries.
