ORANGE COUNTY -- Three people, which included children, were severely struck by a vehicle, Orange County Register reports. The accident occurred just before 4:30 p.m. Monday, when a father and his two children, who are 1- and 3-years-old, were crossing at a Huntington Beach intersection when a motorist making a left turn onto northbound Edwards Street struck them. According to Huntington Beach police Lt. Mike Reynolds, the driver possibly did not see the pedestrians as they walked in a crosswalk at a four-way stop. The impact of the collision caused the father and the 1-year-old infant to sustain minor injuries and bruises as they rolled over the hood of the car. The collision also caused the vehicle to go on top of the 3-year-old toddler's tricycle. The toddler was wearing a safety helmet and suffered injuries, but the specificity of those injuries were not immediately available. Following this devastating accident, the three pedestrians were transported via ambulance to UCI Medical Center for treatment of their injuries that were not life-threatening.
Cause of the Huntington Beach Pedestrian Accident
Based on the information provided by the Orange County Register, it appears the driver may be responsible for the collision. However, the accident on September 25th will remain under investigation by the Huntington Beach Police Department. And investigators will try to determine who is officially responsible and look at a variety of factors that are not limited to the speed of the vehicle, whether the driver was distracted by the use of a cell phone, eating, or even changing the radio station, and road conditions.
Pedestrian Accident Personal Injury Liability
Walkers, joggers, and other pedestrians are vulnerable to serious injuries or death when they are in an accident involving automobiles. Statistically, children are the mostly likely to be hit by a vehicle, whereas the elderly are most likely to be killed in a pedestrian accident. In situations such as this one, if police officials conclude that the driver is responsible for this accident, victims or family members of the victims would be well-advised to speak to a Orange County personal injury lawyer. A skilled and competent attorney who has handled cases involving pedestrian accidents, can advise the victims of their legal rights to hold the driver accountable, and help them recover the maximum compensation for medical care expenses, lost earnings, pain and suffering, and other related damages in this pedestrian accident.
